Old Stuff Collection Drive in Bangalore

We all have a lot of old stuff; old College bags, stationary sets, books, clothes, footwear etc. all accumulated over time, with which we don’t know what to do! Little do we realize that these items which we want to just get rid of could still be invaluable to many people who are not as privileged as we are. Stuff like old clothes and book and shoes which are no more of use to us could bring cheer to lives of those who never had these to begin with!! It is with this thought of helping those in need that we organised the Old Stuff Collection drive.

The aim was to collect old stuff and give them to the needy. We conducted this drive in an Apartment in Kengeri Satellite Town. There are 7 blocks in the society. The volunteer team went to each flat in all the blocks of the apartments.

We asked people to donate anything from old uniforms, books, clothes of all sizes, toys, footwear, lunch boxes, water bottles, geometry boxes, story books, blankets, woollens, raincoats newspapers magazines etc. The enthusiastic response was ascertained from the huge packets kept near the Flag hoisting area of the Apartments.

This kind of response encouraged us to carry on the drive for almost 5 hours. The elders in the volunteering team sorted things out and stacked the newspapers into neat bundles and tied them with ropes for easy handling. It was inspiring to see their smiles while serving while the sun was in its full glory :)

And at the end of the day we sent all the stuff to Jan Sewa trust, Basaweshwara Nagar. 

This step showed us that to help or volunteer or to donate to an orphanage doesn't need your personal money. There are lot many ways you can donate money. It is through the success of these programmes small and big that we feel we are Touching hearts and doing a bit to bring smiles and serve the society.
